Firstly, there is the sculptural form of it, composed of a steel base whose dented shape seems to respond to the impact of the stone placed on top. A metal supporting structure that is furthermore realised in an idiosyncratic way: by means of crushing and transforming an air-filled volume under high pressure until it acquires an expressive quality. The massiveness of the upper half, embodying the eternal forces of nature, challenges its support, suggesting an impactful encounter, a collision, and therefore an exploration of limits.
The dialogue between the surfaces is more nuanced. The stone, a select specimen of the legendary Belgian black limestone, Noir De Mazy, echoes in the base. There it exists in fragments, rediscovering itself in a meticulous montage of tiny particles. A mosaic of segments, a kind of material mirroring that eloquently allows culture and nature to coexist.
