Crushed Daybed - Enamel

This new piece further develops Storms' signature inflated metal cushions, extending his material and visual vocabulary by using a new material. Enamel has long fascinated him as a very durable material, offering many possibilities when it comes to colours and textures.

For this edition, Storms has chosen a black enamel texture that is the visual opposite of his polished steel wallpieces. The sheen emphasises the organic shape, bearing similarities to ceramics with crackled glazes. However–contrary to the fragility of ceramics–enamel is a tough, solid material. Like in other works, Storms thus plays a trick with the visual preconceptions of the viewer.
