Ex Hale Coffee Table, Cast Glass

It reflects Storms’ approach, whereby the inception of one object invariably sparks the development of something new: a fresh insight or an idea that builds on what came before. This design, which was originally an object composed of two welded steel plates inflated by high air pressure, already played with perception. It questioned what is solid or air-filled, light or heavy, soft or hard to the touch. 

This glass cast, a replica made using a mould, takes that idea further. However, all of that becomes incidental: what now prevails is actuality - the transparency of a solid glass object; the unique colour nuances that differ depending on the incident light; and how shadows seem to question themselves through their subtlety. It has a restrained presence in a space: striking without being intrusive.
