The base, a polished stainless steel pedestal, seems to respond to the weight it supports. The upper volume, however, appears less heavy than it actually is. The illusion of polystyrene, a sign of contemporaneity, has been transformed into aluminium, as if by an equally contemporary alchemist, thereby reconsidering the value of the original material.
The collapsed appearance of the base, as if crushed under the form draped over it, is achieved through a newly developed sculptural technique. This involves Ben welding plates together to form a temporary form, which is given its characteristics through a process of high pressure. Difficult to control and therefore inherently unpredictable, it responds to the meticulous representation of casting, which mimics the original material down to the smallest detail.
